La Tramun is not just a mountain bike race. For those who take part, it has become a personal challenge. Its trails, its toughness, its beauty… have made it unique. La Tramun has grown. The number and level of participants have increased year after year. This has been possible thanks to a large number of collaborators and careful attention to every organizational detail.
NATURAL ENVIRONMENT
Crossing the regions of Garrotxa, La Selva, and Gironès, La Tramun has a unique character shaped by the exceptional landscapes it traverses. La Tramun is an excuse to recover hidden trails revealed by the elders of the land. A gift we want to share with participants so they can live a unique moment.
It’s not just a race; it’s a passion of those who create it and shape it with a purpose that goes beyond organizing an event. It’s an act of love for the land and its people, and those who discover it fall in love with it too.
A BENCHMARK FOR MOUNTAIN RACES IN CATALONIA
La Tramun is known for its trails. Many of these trails are cleaned, prepared, or even created specifically for the event. These trails are designed with the biker in mind, with the perfect line to overcome obstacles and fully enjoy the sport. Many years, after La Tramun ends, people say that year’s edition cannot be surpassed and the next won’t match it. But Fidel Freixes, the technical director of the race, surprises everyone year after year by discovering new places and trails that leave us amazed. This makes La Tramun a special race, already considered mythical by many bikers, and a classic that no one wants to miss. However, to enjoy it, there’s a price to pay depending on each rider: being well prepared and having a high physical and technical level.
This race was born in Salt from a youth organization, the club TRAMUNTANA, and the obsession of one of its founders, Josep Maria Ripoll, to connect Olot and Girona using only mountain paths. From the very beginning, Fidel Freixes joined, a cycling enthusiast and one of the major promoters of mountain biking in Girona and a pioneer throughout Spain. Together with them, a group of people passionate about cycling and the mountains joined forces and years later founded the BTT Fornells club, which has organized the race for the past fourteen years under the presidency of Jaume Boix.
ORGANIZATION
The race is promoted and organized by the Club BTT Fornells and within it, by people with over twenty years of experience in organizing races and MTB competition. Like a well-oiled machine, all the organizational elements work in perfect coordination under the masterful direction of Fidel Freixes, who best defines the race’s spirit. The organization involves more than 100 collaborators, essential for cleaning the trails, designing the route, and preparing the feed zones.
This year there will be a total of 78 km of route. The course will be perfectly marked and will feature 6 feed zones. To make this happen, tons of material and over 10 vehicles will be mobilized to cover all refreshment points. Additionally, four buses and two trailers will be used to transport riders to the starting point. Ambulances, police support, a backhoe for the kids’ race, tents, barriers, inflatable arches, and more will also be mobilized.
A meeting point is also planned, where real-time race updates will be shared, and family and friends will be able to follow the riders via social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
La Tramun has grown, and year after year, the number and level of participants have risen. This has been possible thanks to the great care given to every detail from the beginning and the team of collaborators who have made the event a success.
