Sébastien Carabin and Clàudia Galicia win LaTramun the UCI MTB Marathon Series

The respected Catalan mountain bike race celebrates its 18th edition with a stellar podium and after making an internationally leap as a part of the UCI Marathon Series
European champions have participated in the event that for the first time, this year, finished in Girona.

Girona, 16 d’octubre 2016. Belgian Sébastien Carabin and Catalan Claudia Galicia won on Sunday the 18th edition of the Tramun UCI MTB Marathon World Series. The Girona iconic mountain bike race, which this year has made the leap international test calendar of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), has passed on a splendid day after the last rainy days. It has also achieved a record participation with 680 registered in the three races held.

Sebastien Carabin (Wallonie Merida MTB) has clearly dominated the LaTramun edition this year. The Belgian, who had the best UCI Ranking of the participants, has made good its status as favorite. Italian Tony Longo (Wili Force) and Johnny Cattaneo (Wili Force) have been his main rivals.

The three runners have gone together to the first aid station. There Carabin has done his first attack, after a strong climb that left behind his rivals. However, two mechanical problems have shattered the advantage obtained in the first place. When the two Italians bikers have caught Carabin, he has made his second and final attack. The Merida Wallonia rider has made a strong change of pace that led him to the final victory.

The last ten kilometers have been agonizing to reach the Pavilion Girona-Fontjau. Behind him, biting his heels, Tony Longo (second) and Johnny Cattaneo (third). Ramon Sagués (Ajram Capital) and John Llordella (BUFF Pro Team) remained fourth and fifth. The Catalans have gone from less to more.

In the female section, Claudia Galicia (Polar Team Trek) was the big winner of the day. After his first experience years ago, has returned to #LaTramun through the front door. The de Torello led the race from start to finish. First had to live with the shadow of the Lithuanian Katazina Sosna (Torpado Factory Team). The passage of the Lithuanian kilometers were relegated to fourth position.

The second and third step of the podium was for Mercedes Pacios (RT-Four Factors Zappa) and Maria Diaz (Bull Bikes) that would reduce the gap in Galicia. Finally, Claudia do good advantage. Laura Terradas (BTT Forbells) has completed the race in the Top5.

Record participation

In addition to the test mother with elite runners of the country and of Europe, held a 30km race with the same harshness and difficulty of the UCI test and a test for children, the Tramunkids. The three have gathered evidence u n total of 680 runners, fifty of them foreigners.

For the first time Girona was the arrival point of Tramun. In the area of Complementary arribadas’ha concentrate all activities from 9 am to 6 pm, from zip lines, bouncy castles and other activities for children in a shopping area in which everyone could try the latest bikes and mountain bikes electric bicycles.

The collaboration between Girona and Tramun serves to strengthen its brand name Sports Tourism (DTE) and, in turn, race prestige advantage of the boom in the world of cycling in the city
